Prakash Puppalwar

Prakash is a progressive farmer managing an 11-hectare farm (7 hectares fully irrigated, 4 partially) through modern technology and sustainable practices, focusing on crop diversification, resource efficiency, soil health, and renewable energy.

His farm uses micro-irrigation for water efficiency, solar energy to power operations, and a diversified cropping system—Bt cotton, soybean, and pigeon pea as field crops, alongside banana, turmeric, and watermelon as high-value horticultural crops—which spreads production and market risk. He believes GM crops like Bt cotton boost yields, especially when paired with drip irrigation, fertigation, and plastic mulching. He practices green manuring and biochar application to reduce reliance on external inputs, alongside integrated pest and fertilizer management and decomposer cultures from the National Organic Farming Centre.

An early adopter with an experimental mindset, Prakash actively shares farming knowledge via social media. He designed a bullock-driven mulching spreader with a local fabricator, which he shared with farmers in need. Committed to uplifting his farming community's socio-economic standing, he provides ongoing guidance on new crop cultivation, as well as processing and marketing of farm produce.
