About
Johan Chavez is a third-generation farmer, rural youth, and social entrepreneur from Colombia. With a legacy rooted in coffee and flower farming, he began working in chrysanthemum cultivation at age 13. Today, he manages a 1-hectare flower farm where he grows and sells sunflowers, and a 1-hectare coffee farm. He also raises small livestock--poultry, rabbits, and guinea pigs-working alongside his wife. His irrigation system is traditional, and his products are sold mainly in local markets. Johan serves as Head of Postharvest Quality in a flower company and is the founder of BLUECROPS, a startup developing its MVP to provide digital and technological tools for farmers. Passionate about rural development, he leads the Agricultural Youth Observatory and is building a Rural Incubator program for rural youth entrepreneurs supported by Swiss organizations. He joined the Global Farmer Network in 2025 and is an NGIN Ambassador with the Next Gen Agriculture Impact Network, supported by Bayer Crop Science. As a former Youthlead Ambassador at USAID, he supported young leaders and currently serves on the Youth Advisory Group for the World Bank's Solutions for Youth Employment program. Beyond farming, Johan mentors rural youth in entrepreneurship, teaches English to rural children.
