James McCarthy

Jim McCarthy is the Managing Partner, for Southern Harvest Romania.  Trained and working as a farm manager, he began renting land for himself in the 1980’s. In 1992, he began to run his own farm by renting the acres he had managed and increasing to 2,500 acres of rented arable land on long term leases. As a Nuffield Scholar in Ireland, Jim studied scale in farming and the people who achieve it and since then has been involved in large scale fund farming. Farming in Romania today, they continue to build that business, growing wheat, spelt wheat, linn seed, rape seed, sunflower, soyabean, maize, cover crops. Jim is a member of the Global Farner Network and was recognized as the GFN Kleckner Global Farm Leader award recipient in 2009.
