David Statham

David Statham is the co-owner and director of Sundown Pastoral Company, a renowned sustainable agricultural enterprise, alongside his wife, Danielle. Their journey in transforming the agricultural landscape began in 1984 when David, at the age of 17, joined his family's business.

The story of Sundown Pastoral Company started in 1964 with the purchase of a small parcel of land in the New England area of New South Wales by David's family. The picturesque sunsets in the valley inspired the name "Sundown Valley," which later evolved into Sundown Pastoral Company.

Under David's leadership, the company expanded significantly. In the early 1990s, they acquired "Keytah," a barren flat parcel of land west of Moree, which was developed into a stud cattle breeding operation. Over the years, Sundown Pastoral Company grew into a massive agricultural enterprise, encompassing 260,000 acres of highly fertile and productive land across seven holdings in two states of Australia. Mirrimavale, a hardwood forest and timber plantation in far north Queensland, showcases Sundown Pastoral's long-term commitment to the environment through sustainable farming and carbon sequestration techniques.

David has been at the forefront of innovation in agricultural technology and regenerative farming techniques. His vision of working in harmony with nature has led to the company's recognition as one of the world's most efficient and environmentally ethical agricultural enterprises

David's vision for further cotton supply chain integration led to the development of the Wathagar Gin, which neighbors the Keytah property. In 2019, the company acquired St Ronans, a 108,000-acre cropping and cattle operation west of the Atherton Tablelands in far north Queensland. Here, David and his team are pioneering cotton and other crops along with a large-scale feedlot operation.

FibreTrace represents the next stage of the journey for David and Sundown Pastoral Company. Driven by Danielle's vision, FibreTrace technology enables fashion consumers and producers to trace the journey of Sundown Pastoral Company's carbon-positive, sustainable, and ethical cotton from seed to shelf. The independent cotton brand Good Earth Cotton now uses FibreTrace technology, ensuring transparency and traceability throughout the global cotton supply chain.
