About
Chandrashekhar Hari Bhadsavle, widely known as Shekhar, holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, and an M.S. in Food Technology from UC Davis. He returned to his family farm in 1976, aiming to bring dignity and prosperity to farming.
At Saguna Baug in Neral, Raigad district, he and his family built an integrated 55+ acre farm with field crops, horticulture, agroforestry, dairy, aquaculture, vermicomposting and agro-tourism. Since the 1980s, it has been a pioneering model of Krishi Paryatan, letting urban visitors experience farm life firsthand.
His signature innovation, the Saguna Regenerative Technique (SRT)—a permanent raised-bed, zero-till farming system originally for rice, now used for cotton, soybean, maize, and other crops—has reached thousands of farmers through the Saguna Rural Foundation. He also developed techniques for forest-fire prevention and hill regeneration, and for rejuvenating water bodies choked by invasive weeds.
