Bishnu Poudyal

Dr. Bishnu Hari Poudyal grew up in a subsistence farming family in Nepal's rural mountains; his parents' commitment to education let all seven children attend school. While supporting the family farm, he pursued higher studies in natural resource management, forestry, and climate change, building a career in watershed management, community forestry, and project management. He also ran a commercial dairy enterprise (2013–2018) with 35 cows of Nepali and improved breeds, using modern breeding and vaccination practices, before family circumstances brought him back to traditional farming. He later completed his PhD on climate change impacts on forestry and agri-food systems.

Since 2022, he has worked with the FAO in Nepal, managing projects on climate-resilient agriculture and sustainable natural resource management—facilitating Natural Resource Management Field Schools, promoting smallholder agroforestry nurseries, and helping farmers adopt practices like organic liquid fertilizers, drought-resistant crops, and community-led soil and water conservation. He currently serves as a policy and development facilitator advancing nature-based solutions for climate-resilient agro-food systems.
