About
Alida Matsa is a first generation poultry farmer in rural Lesotho who entered agriculture in 2019 and, after a consistent push beginning in 2022, scaled from 50 chicks to facilities that hold about 2,000 birds per cycle. A government grant enabled a borehole, and Alida co‑designed a nipple‑drinking system that conserves water and reduces labor. Drawing on her law background, she advocates for practical policies that help rural producers standardize and grow, and she works directly with local vendors and restaurants to meet rising demand. Over the next 3–5 years, Alida aims to expand to roughly 5,000 birds per cycle while advancing policy‑based transformation from subsistence to commercial farming.
